Gifts for Teaching Friends

I got busy on the weekend and started putting together some gifts for Christmas. I am going the handmade and up cycle this Christmas rather than purchase even more crap from the shops that people don't want.
To make these I
-used a Kaiser craft wooden off the page book
-I took the five wooden pages and painted them up pink with a white paint wash
-I added some paper to size on the front
-The strip of paper I only glued at the back so that the postit pads could be replaced by just sliding the last couple of pages through.
-I stamped the names using an amazing script stamp set I purchased from Simon Says Stamp
-Added ribbon bow to the top and some bling strips from the $2 store

Wallah!! terrific gift for a teacher!

My Favourite Things

I love the MFT range. I only wish that someone would stock it properly here in Australia. They had an awesome sale a few weeks back with 50% off ..couldn't resist and went ahead to add yet some more to the hoard LOL!! expect some videos in the coming weeks as I use all these great new products that I managed to get my hands on. This box cost me about $115 AUS which I thought was amazing!

Crafty Parcel

I can not believe that I was one of the lucky ones to get my hands on a Simon Says Stamp Crafty Parcel during the Black Friday Sales. I had huge problems finding the link on the store site but someone posted it on face book and I was onto it like Flynn and managed to nail not one but two ..so lots of Christmas goodies for friends!! I knew it was coming up and I really wanted to see what you could expect from one of these but I couldn't find one on you tube ... so I made my own video to show you all for next time...I have heard that they do a boxing day crafty parcel..not sure how true but probably worth checking it out!!!. Here's my video in any case :)
Each box cost $49.95 US with $45 postage (they were really heavy) but even at $99 each they were well worth it!

Make Your Own Stickles

Firstly Keryn Nell Powell If you are out there please flick me an email as I don't have yours ;)

A Lovely Saturday morning here in the city of Hobart- So far so good as it has been terribly rainy and unpleasant the last few days. I have been looking at ways to save a few dollars lately and also to get myself organised. I have been watching lots of DIY get organised videos and have been decluttering my house which has been good for the soul. Its amazing how much better you feel when you

1. Donate

2, Can find things

3. See everything tidy

The decluttering has included cleaning up files on the computer as well..I had something like 1000 emails and most of those were from distant relatives living abroad that needed cash and I wondered why they didnt find our other distant relatives that had a huge inheritance that they were dying to give away...problem solved!! LOL

Anyway I picked up this idea from the frugal crafter and thought I would give it a go and a share :)

Upcoming Giveaway - Twelve Tags

Starting tomorrow and then for the first twelve days in October I will be releasing a video a day! These videos will demonstrate how to make Christmas Tags using the Kaisercraft - Frosted Collection.

All you have to do to be in the draw to try out these products is like the you tube videos and leave a comment on a post (not all...a post) here on the Blog it doesn't even have to be anything more that a smiley face....just to let me know you visited :) even from afar!

Distress Ink Techniques

I really need to get out my distress inks and try some of these techniques. At the moment they are sitting in a container waiting, some waiting to be refilled.... I have been using them for some watercolouring lately so I am pretty happy about that :)

Musings

Well here it is Saturday again! Don't get me wrong I am so happy its here and I am starting a bit of a break as well ...it just seems that as you get older they come around faster and faster and before you know it you are at another birthday...or another Christmas.
I was soooo slack last year. I had all these Christmas cards in a box ready to be filled and sent and do you think that happened? I didn't send one!! not because I didn't want to I just simply forgot... our school term runs up to a day or two before Christmas day and with everything else going on.. I forgot!! It didn't stop there...look at our hopeless attempt at putting up a tree and I kid you not this is how it stayed over the holiday season with the addition of a bit of tinsel we threw on it last minute!!

So determined am I to put things right again, make and send those cards, get my home decorated like I have in the past and there is a bit of an incentive this year. This cheeky little monkey (and incredibly gorgeous grand daughter)

So expect to see a few videos and posts of xmas ideas. In the meantime here is a little share of a cheap and effective way to store stamps and dies that I came up with.

Until next time :)

Is Crafting Dead?

I was up early this morning and as I like to do most days grabbed my iPad and began browsing. Interestingly enough today I wasn't looking at videos of cats, dogs or even fail compilations I actually needed a pair of long tweezers so that I don't burn all the skin and hair off my hand as I am embossing... which BTW is my newest favourite thing to be doing.
As I searched for an online store that I could use for this terribly life and death first world problem purchase I was experiencing trouble...there are not a lot around!! a bit like the ol bricks and mortar kind..rare as hens! We only have one store here in Hobart and its quite a journey!
The ones that are online are usually poorly stocked - no fault of their own (I couldn't imagine how hard it would be to look into a crystal ball and determine stock) or worse still in a phase of CLOSING DOWN which begs the question is the papercraft world I love DYING!!
I even found an article on it written in a humorous way but making some good points.
IS SCRAPBOOKING DEAD??

To be honest I haven't scrapbooked for ages.. I thought project life would help but all I have managed to do is stock up on a million journal cards, stickers, pockets and life quotes. Lately I am finding it hard to even have the motivation to create cards. I walk into my spare room..get overwhelmed.. and walk back out again!! ....Probably more to do with the fact it needs a clean up though in all honesty LOL

I  did manage to find a few stores that I visit and purchase from occasionally that remain open and If it really is true that the craft we all love is facing a death March then I might just have to go shopping and support them so that damn well stay open!! It is all about me of course
:
Anna's Craft Cupboard They reopened again!
Crafts Online
Fat Cats Card Corner
Scrapbookboutique
Auzztrinkletsnkrafts
Luluart

What do you all think..Is it dead? Are you paper crafting a lot these days? Do you have a fav store you would like to add? Please leave a comment below.

In the meantime here is some inspiration for today.

Storing Markers

Was going through some old photo files and came across this one today. A handy trick for storing your markers no matter what brand really. The best way to store them is one their side so stacking these like pictured with a colour key on the edge is a great way to reach for the right colour in not time!

You can pick these cases up from local cheap stores pretty easily. Could make for a great tidy up the scrapbook moment for the weekend :) !
