Dont make the stupid mistake of turning your KDP dreams or passive business turn into a legal nightmare!!
Trust me I know how long it take to create a KDP book from start to finish and I also could not imagine receiving a message that my account had been terminated or in the case of owning an Etsy store a letter about an impending lawsuit based on images or files I had downloaded.
This is exactly what happened to a large group of unsuspecting sellers who thought they were safe using assests that they had found on Creative Fabrica. If they had been better informed it may not of ended up like this.
Before I continue I just want to say that Creative Fabrica is an amazing platform that I subsribe to and use often.
I use it for SVG's for my cricut, fonts, clipart and inspiration in designing my own digital assets but even though the assets are labeled for commercial or POD (Print on Demand) use it isnt as straight forward as this.
I recently watchec this video by Stara Moore. She is an Etsy guru however the information she shares in this video relate to Creative Fabrica's use in the KDP space as well. See Link Below.
In the video, Stara tells of sellers in her Etsy community being sued after using assets they downloaded from Creative Fabrica.
Basically
1. a commercial license doesnt mean downloading and putting straight on a product without first modifying the asset to make it new and unique.
2. When these people impacted asked Creative Fabrica for help the response was "Not our problem"
So these people were left sorting out their legal cases, settling in some cases and losing a lot of money.
What should you do?
1. Use AI to create unique assets. Some programs include midjourney, Ideogram, Leonardo and many online software programs like CANVA now have their own AI included.
2. Outsource and hire an artist. Make sure this artist has a proper comemrical license and creates original works( not just use online assets! or we havent solved the problem!)
3. Always, even thought its as boring as hell, take some time to understand the terms and conditions of the platforms you use.
The biggest thing to remember is keeping your assets 100% original, unique and copyright compliant.
